Rolled paper art

I love recycling, most of my art is made from something else. I had some old wrapping paper that had lots of colors in it, so I decided to use it for this project. I also had a piece of wood that had something I had done before on it, but it dident turn out how I wanted. so with elmers glue, scissors, wrapping paper,a old board, paint, gloss glaze, and a little imagination I created this........

This took me about 2 days, with drying time. I first started by drawing a design on the board, I painted the spaces in my design just in case the background showed through. while I waited for the paint to dry I cut up the paper into small squares so they would be easier to roll. I rolled the paper and cut it to fit into the spaces.I glued the paper rolls down, and when it was dry I painted the sides of the wood, and the sides of the rolled paper.

I added Americana triple thick Gloss glaze. I put three layers of glaze to make it strong, letting each layer dry in between.and thats it. I need to add some hardware to hand it with on the back, but thats basicly all there is to it.

The next piece I wanted to as much recycled material as possible. I cut a cardboard box into a 8x10 canvas, i covered it with a piece of cardstock, and a couple layers of Gesso. i drew, and painted my design on, then I used all the magazine pages that I normaly would throw away, like pages with all writing. I decided I would use whatever pages then paint the rolles afterwards with acrylic paint to get the colors I wanted. after the paint was dry I covered the entire piece with three coats of Americana triple thick glaze. I think it turned out nice.
TIPS: filling spaces with rolled paper can be dificult, I measured and cut, and measured again. be patient, rounded spaces are particularly tricky, but are possible to fill.

My final piece is a abstract of the sun. I wanted to play around a little with glitter glue to give it a little sparkle. I coated it with 3 coats of gloss once the glitter glue was dry. this has a mix of magazine pages, and scrap scrapbook paper.

Well thats it for this post, If anyone has any questions feel free to ask in the comments, and I hope you enjoy my blog.

Ideas to decorate your cell phone.

In my first post I just anted to show you how I decorated my cell phone. I had a plastic case on it to protect it(I drop it alot) but it was really plain, so I first painted it with 2 coats of gesso, or white flat acrylic paint works fine. then i used a makeup sponge to put three coats of acrylic paint.when that was dry I put two coats of glitter paint. then I looked through all my stickers and gems and this is the end result.
sorry the  pic is kinda dark. if you have any questions just ask. Have a great creative day!!!!!!

p.s. Someone please tell my husband that art doesan't need a reason!
